3TTO Ebermannstadt and Nurnberg

Our 3TTO-students have a long term project with German students. In October they went to Ebermannstadt and Nurnburg. They wrote travel logs about these trips.  In April the Germans will stay with our students in Haarlem.

This year we went to Ebermannstadt for an exchange with pupils of the Realschule. We left Haarlem on Monday 12th October and it was a nice trip. But ten hours in the bus was a bit long. When we arrived at our destination we first had to clean the bus because we had made a big mess of it.
I stayed at Bianca’s house and her parents and sister were both very nice. During the week we went on a number of trips – a cave, a ‘rodelbaan’ an old city called Bamberg, a museum about Hitler and, of course, a day in Nurnburg.
We returned on Friday 17th October and were actually very sad that we had to leave Germany but very happy to know that our new friends from Germany will be coming to Haarlem in April 2010.

On the 12th October we had to be at school at 7 o’ clock in the morning. When we were all there, we went by bus to Germany for an exchange trip. We arrived at the Piet Hein Realschule in Nurnburg at 8 in the evening And there was my partner, Saskia, waiting to take me ‘home’.
On Tuesday we had to go to Saskia’s school, which I think was the only boring activity we had. None of the teachers had time to spend with us and we couldn’t understand anything they were talking about in the lessons.
The best day of the week was Thursday. First we went to the Coliseum of Hitler, which was quite interesting. The excursion took about 3 hours so we went to the city centre at 2pm and then we went shopping (of course the best part of the week!).
I really enjoyed my time over there and bought some nice clothes. In the evening we went to school for dinner; which was also very nice, with all my friends. After dinner we had a disco, which I really enjoyed. I danced with some friends and we had fun. When the disco was finished at 10pm, we went home. Then I packed my bag and went to bed. In bed I had some good conversations with Saskia and we got to know each other very well.
I liked my time in Germany with all my friends. I’m glad I had a nice exchange partner and I will definitely stay in touch with Saskia.

Dublin

Wow, it was really a fantastic week! I saw and learnt a lot of new things. Some things were boring, but others were great! On Sunday we had to arrive at Schiphol. Everybody wanted to go to Dublin and I think that the most of us were also a bit nervous. I’ve to say that I was nervous too, for me it was the first time that I travelled by aeroplane(!!).
When we arrived on Dublin airport (after a trip by airplane with a lot of screaming...) we went by busses to a place where our host families came to pick us up.
The next day we had to go by bus (on our own!) to our school. The school was really beautiful, all old-fashioned with big coloured windows. We were divided into three groups and we went to our lessons. The teacher of my group was really friendly. In the lessons we did English games (and sometimes she also taught us something...). Each day after the lessons we had an excursion. On Monday we had a guided tour of Dublin. We saw a lot of historical and new things in Dublin. On Tuesday we went to the Trinity College and the Book of Kells. That didn’t take too long. The introduction was longer than the time that we spent in the museum. After that we had free time for shopping! That was great! On Wednesday we didn’t have school. First we went to the Powerscourt Gardens. That was beautiful! You could see a lot of trees and flowers. It sounds boring but it was fantastic. After the Powerscourt Gardens (still on Wednesday) we went to the Wicklow Mountains. I’ll never forget that. It is so beautiful! They’re mountains (actually they’re hills) with a big river and a big lake. Everywhere it’s green and there are little waterfalls. If I return to Dublin, I want to see that again. On Thursday we went to the Croke Park. That’s a big stadium where they play Irish sports like Hurling and Gaelic Football. There was also a museum where you could find information about the stadium and the sports. You could also try a little bit of the sports.
On the last day, Friday, we didn’t have any excursions. After the lessons we went to the airport to go home. It was a great week and I really want to return to Dublin once, but I’m happy that I’m back home again.
